Who'd have ever thought we'd be here, oh, 50 weeks ago?
As his Philadelphia Eagles took a 24-14 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs to the State Farm Stadium locker room in Super Bowl LVIII, that he'd find himself on any sort of hot seat was certainly the last thing on Nick Sirianni's mind.
Actually, one doesn't even have to go back that far. As recently as Nov. 26, the Eagles were 10-1 on the season and 26-5 since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Although if Siranni had known how the 2023 season campaign would finish, with losses in six of Philly's final seven games, he likely wasn't surprised at all to see the tides turn on him. The Eagles have one of the most demanding fan bases in pro sports, a fact their head coach knows as well as anyone.
And so, fairly or unfairly, Sirianni found himself in "hot seat" talk.
However, the Eagles revealed Monday that Sirianni will join GM Howie Roseman for the club's end-of-season press conference on Wednesday.
Obviously, that's a way for the team to announce without announcing that their head coach will return for a fourth season in 2024.
Seasoned observers were already clued-in to the teams plans after it was reported defensive coordinator Sean Desai and Matt Patricia, promoted in-season to run the defense, would not return. There would be no reason to make such moves if a new head coach was about to arrive to Lincoln Financial Field and change out the entire staff.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
Tuesday update> Jeff McLane (who covers the Eagles) shares that offensive coordinator Brian Johnson will not return next season. Thus, the Eagles are on the hunt for new offensive and defensive coordinators.
