Oregon has been a place known for their unique uniforms, but this week their threads will mean significantly more to Dan Lanning and his family.
Dan's wife, Sauphia, completed treatment for bone cancer in 2017, and the Oregon equipment folks, led by Kenny Farr, had the idea that they wanted her to design a uniform.
The sketches started on napkins and evolved into something really special and meaningful
The design Sauphia came up with is dominated by yellow, to acknowledge her battle with osteosarcoma, and will also feature a yellow ribbon - something that Sauphia sketched herself.
The uniform will also include ice cream cones, something that the family would treat themselves to during Sauphia's cancer treatments, colors for the different types of cancer on the toes of the cleats and backs of the helmets (a design element one of Lanning's son's came up with), and a unique molecular structure to reference the "red devil" chemo treatments.
The Ducks will wear these on Friday when they take on Michigan State in Autzen, as Sauphia celebrates not only being cancer free for seven years, but also bringing a spotlight to the everyday heroes in hospitals that treat those are sick.
