Oregon State defensive coordinator Trent Bray was elevated to lead the program following the appointment of Jonathan Smith as the new head coach at Michigan State.
Bray has opted to fill much of his staff with guys with Oregon State ties as either players or coaches, and his new defensive coordinator is no exception.
As his defensive play caller, Bray is tabbing a former Beaver who spent last season in the NFL in Keith Heyward.
The school announced the hire formally today.
Heyward has spent the 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders in a defensive quality control role.
A college coaching veteran, he has experience in the Pac-12 working with the defensive backs at Oregon State, Washington, USC, and Oregon while coaching the outside linebackers at Cal in 2021.
He spent the 2022 season as the defensive coordinator at UNLV, and has previously held co-defensive coordinator / pass game coordinator titles at Oregon and USC.
Keep track of the rest of his staff via our Oregon State Staff Tracker page.
