New, disturbing details emerge in hazing allegations at San Diego (Dale Lindsey)

Preseason hazing allegations at Northwestern cost longtime Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald his job a few months back, and now we have more details on another Division I football program's hazing scandal.

At the University of San Diego, hazing allegations first came to light back in August, offering little details at the time while the program decided to temporarily suspend all football activities as up to half the football team was facing possible suspensions.

A former quarterback for the program has come forward with some disturbing stories about a hazing culture that he believes has existed for years.

AJ Perez, a former USD quarterback who transferred to the program this fall after a season at Utah Tech, has come forward with allegations of strange sexualized incidents among the football team that include being forced to strip naked and be put in a locked room with "grotesque pornography," The San Diego Tribune shares.

The other allegation includes a rookie show for first-year players, where they were forced by upperclassmen to perform to a song naked, and those who didn't perform to the vets liking, they were subject to "spooning" which consisted of spoons being thrown at them, or being spanked with a large wooden spoon.

The piece went on to add that Perez begrudgingly took part in that rookie show, was one of the first ones on stage, and then returned to his dorm room with an overwhelming sense of feeling violated. He later gathered a few belongings and drove home at about 3am.

Brandon Moore, who led Colorado School of Mines (D-II) to the national title game last season, was hired to lead the program in the spring, taking over for longtime head coach Dale Lindsey.

Moore has made just one public comment related to the incident, noting that they had a player "go missing" back on August 24th. He added that they inquired about it, and learned that he went home and needed to "decompress."

Coaches and players have not made a media appearance since those comments.

San Diego is 1-6 with their homecoming game against Morehead State on tap this weekend.

Following allegations at Northwestern and elsewhere in college football, we shared a heartfelt open letter to the coaching community on how we move forward that is worth revisiting here.
