Minnesota's defensive coordinator will reportedly come from Big Ten program (Minnesota)

With defensive coordinator Joe Rossi's departure from Minnesota for the same spot at Michigan State, PJ Fleck had a key coordinator position to fill on the Gophers staff.

A report today shares that Fleck is filling the job with a Big Ten coach that has previous coordinator experience.

Pete Thamel shares that Corey Hetherman is set to be the new Gophers defensive play caller.

Hetherman has spent the last two seasons coaching the linebackers at Rutgers.

Prior to that, he called the defense at both James Madison, where he was the 2021 AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year in 2021,

His defenses with the Dukes ranked among the top ten in both total defense and scoring defense in his three seasons with the program.

He also previously spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Maine (FCS).
