After fielding one the best passing offenses in the MAC, including a historic year from tight end Harold Fannin Jr. who broke the FBS record for both receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555) by a tight end, Bowling Green is reportedly losing a key assistant.
Falcons receivers coach and pass game coordinator Erik Campbell is heading to the Big Ten to become the assistant receivers coach at Michigan, according to a recent report from 247.
The move to Ann Arbor marks a return for Campbell, who not only played under Bo Schembechler in the 1980's but also previously coached the receivers for the Wolverines for over a decade from 1995-2007. His time with the program included mentoring greats like Braylon Edwards, Amani Toomer, Mario Manningham, and current Michigan receivers coach Ronald Bellamy as well.
After Lloyd Carr's retirement at Michigan, Campbell coached the receivers at Iowa and spent a few seasons in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes.
He'd go on to coach at UConn and then serve as pass game coordinator / wide receivers coach at Delaware (FCS) before joining Scot Loeffler's staff at BGSU in 2019, and that's where he has spent the last several seasons.
Campbell joins a strong offensive staff that underwent a coordinator change this offseason. Chip Lindsey was brought in to run to the offense while Grant Newsom (OL), Steve Casula (TEs), Ron Bellamy (WRs) and Tony Alford (RBs / RGC) all return.
