Jon Sumrall to remain at Tulane, gives passionate response following question about UNC job (North Carolina)

Update >> In the early morning hours, Pete Thamel shared Sumrall is not pursuing any of the open jobs this cycle.

Sumrall responded to that in the best possible way (especially if you're a Green Wave fan).

Imagine showing up to your job and being asked the same question over, and over, and over again.

That's what life is like for Jon Sumrall and other coaches who have their names connected to open jobs when they've done outstanding work with their respective programs.

How each coach decides to deal with that with the media is often put under a microscope by both fans and media.

After losing their last two games in a row, including the AAC title game to Army on Friday night, Sumrall was asked today about the reports linking him to the opening at North Carolina.

In the most respectful way possible in that situation, a clearly annoyed Sumrall responded to the reporters question in a manner that can only be described as passionate.

"...I don't...I'm here aren't I?" he fired back.

"My goodness. Do you want me to leave? I get asked about it every day right now."

"I mean, I know we lost two games, and everyone wants to run me out of town," Sumrall continued, in a more joking tone.

"I'm here. I showed up to work today. I'm not going to comment about hypoteticals."

Then, Sumrall pulled back the curtain on how he filters interest from other teams.

"Look Gary. People call. They call my agent. I don't talk to them, very often. Like, very little gets to me. Very little. Almost nothing gets to me. I'm like, I'm not talking, I'm not talking, I'm not talking."

"When it gets to me, it's usually because it's like this is something that I really need to consider."

With that said, Sumrall goes on to share, "Nothing is getting to me right now. I can say that. Nothing is getting to me."

"Could that change? I mean, I don't know. If some newspaper tripled your salary, you might go. I'm just saying, I don't know. I'm very happy...other than we've lost our last two games. I'm pissed off about that, and everyone probably wants me to leave because we lost twice. I don't know."

With three years of FBS head coaching experience, Sumrall has gone 12-2 and 11-2 at Troy and has Tulane sitting at 9-4 with a chance to win a tenth game when they face Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.

Try and name a head coach who has won 9+ games in each of their first three seasons at two different programs, and it's easy to connect why Sumrall is high on the list of many athletic directors with an opening on their hands.
