Jaguars name Doug Marrone head coach, Tom Coughlin VP of football operations (Featured)

The first hire of the 2017 NFL cycle is... not a new hire at all.

The Jacksonville Jaugars have announced interim head coach Doug Marrone as their new head coach. The former Syracuse and Buffalo Bills head coach, Marrone went 1-1 in taking over for Gus Bradley after spending the majority of the past two seasons as assistant head coach and offensive line coach.

Additionally, the Jaguars announced Tom Coughlin as the club's new executive vice president of football operations. Coughlin, 70, interviewed to return as the club's head coach but the pair made a match to bring the Coughlin back as an executive. Coughlin served as the club's first head coach, posting a 68-60 record with four playoff appearances, including two trips to the AFC Championship, from 1995-02.

The club also announced a 2-year extension for general manager Dave Caldwell. Collectively, the moves are seen across the league as an effort to salvage Blake Bortles, the Jaguars' No. 3 overall pick at quarterback in the 2014 Draft.
