Marketing types dubbed Louisiana-Monroe's Camo Night promotion a success as soon as it was announced. How can anyone with a sense of humor not love this? What could not be known until Saturday, though, was whether or not the target audience, the people of Monroe and northwest Louisiana, would buy in.
With 21,003 in attendance, we can now say for certain that ULM's first of its kind Camo Night promotion was indeed a success. Excluding games against local programs Louisiana-Lafayette, Grambling and Tulane and the exceedingly rare home date with Baylor in 2012, the Warhawks have averaged 14,419 fans over the past two seasons. Thursday's win represented nearly a 50 percent attendance jump. Oh, did we mention that ULM won? The 17-10 defeat of Wake Forest, televised nationally on ESPNU, was undoubtedly the most important contributor to a successful night.
Duck Dynasty phenomenon Willie Robertson even made his scheduled appearance and, better yet, guaranteed further exposure for ULM football by bringing a camera crew of cable television's highest rated show along with him. The only thing left to do now is put those jerseys in a box and ship them somewhere far, far away. [Insert from Scott: Zach has lost his mind. Those jerseys were a hit!]
FootballScoop's Scott Roussel spoke with ULM head coach Todd Berry about the Camo Night success and where the ULM program goes from here.
