Houston finally pried Willie Fritz away from Tulane, where Fritz had turned the Green Wave into arguably the Group of 5's most impressive program and become a beloved figure.
Turns out, Houston rewarded Fritz with a five-year deal, per some terms of the contract that the University of Houston released Monday.
Fritz has been slated to earn a guaranteed base salary of $4.5 million per year.
Terms of Fritz's deal were first shared by the Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte.
The $4.5 million salary for Fritz is a significant raise from what Fritz made atop the Tulane program, though neither his exact salary nor buyout is known due to Tulane's status as a private institution.
But that annual salary matches what Houston was paying fired coach Dana Holgorsen this season and for what was scheduled on the remainder of Holgorsen's contract, which ran through Dec. 31, 2027.
Unless a settlement was reached between Holgorsen and Houston to reduce the buyout, the former coach is owed approximately $14.5 million after his dismissal late last month.
