The Atlanta Braves are moving to the suburbs, and Georgia State is going to flip their old place, knock out some walls, install their own open concept and make Turner Field their new, cozy home.
The Panthers on Wednesday released renderings of what their new home in south Atlanta will look like. Capacity will drop from the Braves' near 50,000 seats to a more intimate 23,000, with the ability to add 10,000 more should demand arise.
Georgia State's board has approved the purchase of the property for $22.8 million, and the entire project is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $50 million. The stadium is being renovated on a quick turnaround: Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed announced Turner Field's availability for purchase just three months ago, and the Panthers are planning on moving in for the 2017 season.
