Furman adding defensive assistant with multiple years' NFL, Power-5 coaching experience (NFL UPDATE)

Clay Hendrix's coaching tree includes former assistants in both Power-5 programs and head coaching roles around college football.

Now Hendrix is adding an experienced coach into the Furman Paladins' program.

Addison Lynch is joining the Furman program to work with the Paladins' defensive backs.

In addition to an earlier stint at Florida State in off-the-field and quality control-type roles, Lynch has been a position assistant/quality control coach along multiple NFL stops.

Lynch coached with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders after breaking into the NFL in 2018; he spent last season with the Detroit Lions.

Prior to that, Lynch had a six-year run that spanned multiple head coaches at Florida State, and he played collegiately at Football Championship Subdivision program Bryant University, where he also crossed paths with current NCAA Division III head coach Ben Fox, of Maryville College.

Furman is deep into its 2023 spring camp, after making an extended FCS Playoffs run as part of a 10-win campaign last fall under Hendrix.

The Paladins conclude spring camp March 18. They are scheduled to open their 2023 season Aug. 31. against visiting Tennessee Tech, before nine days later making the quick trip to Columbia, S.C., to face Shane Beamer's South Carolina Gamecocks.
