Erik Chinander and Nebraska parted ways back in mid-September of 2022 after serving as defensive coordinator for Scott Frost with both the Huskers and at UCF.
He landed as the assistant head coach / defensive line coach at Boise State in December of 2022, and is now set to take over the defensive play calling duties after spending last fall with the program.
Multiple reports share today that Chinander will be taking over as the Broncos defensive coordinator.
The move comes after defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson was elevated to the head coaching role after leading the team to a 3-0 record as interim head coach, with that last win coming in the Mountain West title game.
Chinander's defensive line has performed as one of the top units in college football this past season with nearly 3 sacks per game.
Before landing at Nebraska and UCF, Chinander climbed the coaching ranks at Oregon, where he worked as an intern, then a graduate assistant before taking over the outside linebackers in 2014 and 2015.
He also has previous experience in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles as their assistant defensive line coach in 2013 when they won the NFC East, and at Northern Iowa where he was on the offensive side of the ball, mentoring the Panthers tight ends for three-conference title runs.
