Cleaning up a chaotic weekend that revealed more about who's real and who's absolutely been exposed through the first month of the college football season, and ...
Where to begin?
Let's start in Norman, Oklahoma. Tennessee overpowered the host and previously undefeated Sooners in a dominant, wire-to-wire performance.
The Vols in a blowout-win weeks ago in Charlotte against North Carolina State amassed more tackles for losses, 13, than first downs allowed, 10, in that 40-point romp.
At Oklahoma, Tennessee's defense stymied the Sooners' offense to the tune of 36 net rushing yards on 34 tries. That math on that one is rather easy; a paltry 1.1 yards per carry.
For good measure, the Vols held the ball 11 minutes more than did the Sooners, who closed within 10 late but frankly never threatened a Tennessee offense that had a couple splash plays and then just operated as needed.
Meanwhile in Boulder, Colorado, Deion Sanders joked he already had plenty enough gray hair.
He'll take the extra ones, though, after Shedeur Sanders's overtime-forcing Hail-Mary throw to LaJohntay Wester, and Travis Hunter's game-ending forced-fumble tackle at the goal line.
The Buffs are an imperfect 3-1 and still with flaws, but they got a win they desperately needed and exacerbated Dave Aranda's misery atop Baylor in the process.
Notre Dame again was booed vociferously by the home crowd, much louder than any time this season in road games at Texas A&M and Purdue, but pulled away with the game's final 28 points for an 28-3 win against Chuck Martin's Miami (Ohio) RedHawks.
Now, as pressure mounts on Marcus Freeman, the No. 16 Irish prepare to host No. 15 Louisville -- a squad that eviscerated Notre Dame inside the Cardinals's home nest last season.
With no conference title to vie for and already a loss to Northern Illinois, which stumbled back to earth this weekend with a home loss in overtime to Pete Lembo's Buffalo Bulls, Notre Dame at 3-1 has its back to the wall.
Auburn is a mess, and Zach Barnett has written in-depth on the turmoil on the Plains while FootballScoop President Scott Roussel offers a restrained take on the situation.
