FCS game cancelled due to "Whooping cough" outbreak (Whooping Cough)

This just might be a first -- at least in modern college football history.

Portland State was set to host South Dakota in a non-conference FCS contest.

But Portland State officials announced the game would be postponed due to an "whooping cough" outbreak within the Vikings football team.

Per the South Dakota release that announced the game's postponement:

"A case of pertussis (whooping cough) got into the Viking team two days ago," South Dakota officials said. "Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that affects the lungs, and many members of the Viking football program have been exposed to the disease."

While South Dakota's release noted the game had been postponed, the host Vikings noted in their release that the contest had been cancelled.

"It should be noted that no players on the Viking team are seriously ill at this time," the Portland State release shared.

South Dakota is set to host Drake next Saturday before leaning into Missouri Valley Conference play against Southern Illinois.

The Vikings (0-2) are scheduled for a money game next week when they are supposed to travel to Boise State.
