Grinnell College, a Division III program in Iowa, announced Tuesday it has cancelled the remainder of its season due to a shortage of players.
The Pioneers began the season with 39 players and due to injuries are now down to 28, a number the school did not feel was safe for both the 28 currently healthy players or the 11 injured.
"The College is unwilling to compromise the health and safety of its players, including the 11 players, who over the course of the first seven weeks of practice and play, will miss some or all of the season," the school said in a statement.
Grinnell was off to an 0-3 start to this season, losing by scores of 28-0, 44-0 and 42-3. The club had seven games remaining on its 2019 schedule.
