D-III program uses wild play to remain undefeated (Muhlenberg)

It's one the many things that makes football special - when wild endings to big games get their own nicknames.

There's the "The Play" from Cal vs. Stanford, the Iron Bowl's "Kick Six," the "There's Trouble With the Snap" from Michigan State's win over Michigan.

At the Division III level this weekend, a top 25 match up between Johns Hopkins (MD) and Muhlenberg (PA) went down to the wire and had an ending deserving of its own nickname.

Johns Hopkins lined up for what would be the game winning field goal with about three seconds left, but a low kick was blocked by the Blue Jays own offensive line.

That's where things get interesting, because the ball ends up being deflected into the arms of Will Leger, who was one of the wings on the field goal unit, and he turned around, had the corner, and was able to get to the end zone on a 14-yard scamper that won the game.

The moment - which was quickly coined "The Miracle at Muhlenberg" and was picked up by ESPN and a number of other outlets - was caught from two angles that show just how special and improbably it was.
