The former writer Bill Simmons once coined the term "the Tyson Zone" to describe when the news around a public figure had become so circus-like that anything would be believed.
Safe to say, Deion Sanders has reached that point.
A rumor pinged around the Internet Monday that Coach Prime had ordered Colorado's Golden Buffalo Marching Band to remain silent after his son Shedeur's touchdowns so the patrons at Folsom Field could hear Sheduer's song "Perfect Timing" instead.
No, Colorado said Monday afternoon, we do not play "Perfect Timing" instead of the fight song after Shedeur touchdowns. We only play a "small snippet" of it.
Here's the statement, via ESPN's Kyle Bonagura.
I presume Colorado provides its starting quarterback and its kicker, Alejandro (sic) Mata, something like baseball walk-up music but in reverse, where a song of their choosing plays after successful moments in games.
Either way, the lesson here is that, like the clip of the training camp touchdown pass that the Internet assumed was edited but actually ended up being real, so many people out there are rooting for Deion and Shedeur Sanders to fail that they'll eagerly twist and stretch the truth to fit their assumption, and also that Deion and Shedeur give so many people reasons to assume the worst about them.
We did this once in August and we're at this point again in September. We'll see everyone back here in October, when someone on the Internet invents a rumor that Deion ordered the CU defense to surrender a touchdown so Shedeur could pad his passing stats.
