A year that started off as one of the hottest teams in college football, going 3-0 with wins over TCU, Nebraska and in-state rival Colorado State ended with a 4-8 record for Coach Prime and his first off season in Boulder he's had to replace a number of key coaches on staff, including two coordinators.
Colorado paid Prime's staff a record $4.59 million last season, and they're following that up with a new record in base and supplemental salaries this season, according to BuffZone.
With new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, offensive line coach Phil Loadholt, and receivers coach Jason Phillips on board, to go along with Pat Shurmur's official appointment to the offensive play caller spot, the report shares that Colorado's 10 on-field assistants will make a combined $4.65 million.
Livingston, who is just 38 years old and spent the last eight seasons working in the NFL with the Bengals safeties, will make $800k this fall.
His deal calls for a significant bump to $995k in 2025, which will make him the highest paid assistant in Colorado football history. That is nearly $100k more than Charles Kelly earned last fall as the team's defensive coordinator ($900k).
The first-time defensive play caller takes over a defense that allowed nearly 35 points per game last fall.
Phillips, who spent the last few seasons in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after a number of seasons at places like Baylor, Houston, SMU, Kansas, Oregon State, Utah State and Jackson State (FCS), is set to make $315k this season and $340k next fall on a two-year deal.
Loadholdt, the former NFL veteran who spent last season as an analyst at Oklahoma and has previous coaching stops at UCF and Ole Miss, has a one-year deal that will pay him $325k.
Shurmur took over as offensive play caller midway through the year for Sean Lewis after initially joining the staff as an offensive analyst, and is set to make $800k this year and $850k next fall.
Lastly, the report adds that defensive analyst-turned outside linebackers coach Vincent Dancy also has a two-year deal that will pay him $350k this year and $375k in year two of the deal.
