Chicago State has launched their search for new FCS program's first head coach (Chicago State)

Illinois and Northwestern have had some fun over the years debating which one can truly stake claim to be "Chicago's Team."

Well, with a brand new FCS program coming to the Windy City, those two Big Ten programs are going to have to either take a back seat, or ate least come up with a new way to phrase that argument.

After reaching their $4 million fundraising goal set back in 2023 to support overall sports expansion focused on both women's sports and football, Chicago State announced today that they have officially launched their search for their first head football coach.

"We are excited to reach this milestone in our football planning. Hiring a coach will give this program a face and bring us one step closer to D-1 football on the South Side," Dr. Monique Carroll, the VP and director of intercollegiate athletics for the Cougars shared.

Also included in the school's release was what they're looking for.

"Our ideal candidate is a leader who understands what it takes to build a program from scratch, and who can help create a clear vision for Cougar football."

The pending search, which aims to hire someone this spring with the help of Renaissance Search and Consulting firm, brings the school one very important step closer to fielding an FCS football program as they are expected to being Division I competition in 2026.
