Cal reportedly expected to make a change at offensive coordinator (Mike Bloesch)

After a 6-6 finish, Justin Wilcox is reportedly set to take the offense in a new direction at cal.

Mike Bloesch spent the past two seasons on Cal's staff, and the past year as the program's offensive coordinator.

247 shares that there is a possibility that Bloesch, a veteran offensive line coach, could remain on staff in another capacity, but that Cal is set to have a different offensive coordinator as the program begins year nine under Justin Wilcox.

He spent the 2023 season as offensive line coach and run game coordinator before being elevated to the offensive play caller role almost exactly one year ago following the departure of Jake Spavital to become the offensive coordinator at Baylor.

This fall, he led an offense that scored 26 points per game (83rd nationally) and a pass offense that ranked among the top 30 in college football. The veteran offensive line coach had a tough time finding success with the ground game, averaging just shy of 117 yards per game, good for 109th nationally.

The offensive coordinator role is a spot that has lacked consistency in Wilcox's tenure with the program. In 2022, Wilcox fired Bill Musgrave from the play calling role. That led the the hire of Spavital, who spent one season in the role before heading to Waco, and now Wilcox is in familiar territory seeking a new offensive play caller after Bloesch's one season.
