Brent Pry reportedly shaking up staff at Virginia Tech (Virginia Tech)

A season that started with a lot of hope for a breakout campaign under Brent Pry, with the Hokies returning their entire offense and 9 defensive starters from a 7-win season, ended with the Hokies losing three of their final four games to finish 6-6.

Now, Pry is reportedly making some staff changes ahead of their Duke's Mayo Bowl matchup with Minnesota.

Andy Bitter reports tonight that defensive coordinator Chris Marve, veteran offensive line coach Ron Crook and strength coach Dwight Galt are all out.

Marve, a former 35 Under 35 selection by the AFCA, had served as defensive coordinator Pry's entire time with the program. He was hired after collecting experience in the SEC at Vanderbilt and Mississippi State and then spent two seasons at Florida State as the Seminoles defensive run game coordinator and linebackers coach.

Crook joined the staff in 2023 after previously serving as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at South Dakota (FCS). The coaching veteran also has stops around college football at Cincinnati, West Virginia, Stanford and Illinois, as well as a host of others.

Senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV was in his third season in Blacksburg and had previously worked with Pry at Penn State, where he was an assistant director of strength and conditioning. He joined the Hokies after three seasons in the same role at Old Dominion.

After a 3-8 debut season for the Hokies, Pry has gotten VT bowl eligible the past two seasons, finishing 7-6 in 2023 before their 6-6 finish this year.
