Years from now, Bill Belichick will likely be remembered for two things. First, for winning more Super Bowls than any coach in NFL history. And two, for his mule-like refusal to not talk about things he didn't want to talk about.
But find the right topic and the guy won't shut up.
Bill Belichick may legitimately be the most knowledgable person on earth on football's strategy, techniques and its history -- if not him, I'd love to meet that person -- and his exit from New England and inability to immediately land a new job may serve to be a minor setback for him but a major win for the rest of us.
Belichick is already weighing TV roles, which would likely be a free-form position to explore topics that interest him with either NFL Network or Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions, rather than a seat on a network's desk where he's asked to give his best 15 seconds on Steelers-Colts.
And now, on Friday, The Athletic reported Belichick is exploring writing a book.
The topic of the book is unknown, but the potential is there for Belichick to pen the spiritual sequel to Finding the Winning Edge, Bill Walsh's 550-page opus, if Belichick has it in him.
And if it means Belichick has to sit out the 2025 season to finish his version of the ultimate A-to-Z guide to football coaching, well, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
