Bears finalizing deal with Ben Johnson as new head coach (Detroit Lions)

Multiple reports share today that Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, arguably the hottest head coaching candidate in the past two NFL head coach hiring cycles, is going to land as the Bears new head coach.

Johnson led the top scoring offense in the NFL this past year.

The past two seasons he had drawn significant interest from NFL teams, but had opted to return to Detroit to Dan Campbell's staff and hold out for the right opportunity.

The plan was to return to Detroit and help bring the Lions their first Super Bowl title with Campbell, but after earning the first top seed in franchise history, the Lions fell to the Commanders over the weekend to dash those Super Bowl hopes.

Johnson was waiting for a pairing of a talented quarterback and alignment in the front office, and seems to have found just that in Chicago.

One of the NFL's gutsiest and most creative offensive coordinators now lands within the division, with Caleb Williams manning the top signal caller spot.

The Raiders and minority owner Tom Brady made a late push to land the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, but signs today point to Johnson now landing in The Windy City.

Adam Schefter adds that Johnson has been busy assembling a top-notch staff, and the leading candidate for his defensive coordinator spot is former Saints head coach Dennis Allen.
