Bo Pelini and Nebraska parted ways 17 months ago, and the year and a half since have taught us nothing has changed. Relations between Nebraska's administration and its former head coach are still as frosty as the state of affairs between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
In case some of the finer points have slipped your mind between then and now, here's what Pelini had to say about Nebraska AD Shawn Eichorst in a recorded exit meeting between Pelini and his players:
"Look who he circles himself with. Look at his team of people. C'mon, man. I’d rather ... work at McDonald’s than work with some of those guys. Not that there's anything bad about working at McDonald’s."
And here was Pelini on Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman during his introductory press conference at Youngstown State.
Neither side excelled in their first year postpartum. Nebraska booked its third losing season since 1961, and Youngstown State slipped from 7-4 to 5-6 under Pelini, who was still doing Bo Pelini Things on the field.
The line of fire was quiet over the past few months, until Perlman got in some parting shots at Pelini during his farewell address as Nebraska's chancellor.
From the Omaha World-Herald:
When the outgoing UNL chancellor gave his final address on Friday, he said, “I’m not going to do a Bo Pelini.”
The audience laughed.
“Do you know what a Bo Pelini is?” Perlman continued. “It is defined in the urban dictionary as an expletive-laced rant expressing outrage on leaving a position you didn’t want anyway.
“Not going to do it.”
Some things just never change.
