Duke Football’s Director of Football Operations Tanner Schultheis is making the jump to the NFL sources tell FootballScoop.
Schultheis has been hired by the Los Angeles Rams as Senior Manager of Team Travel and Logistics. A veteran college football operations specialist, Schultheis brings more than a decade of experience coordinating the behind-the-scenes details that keep Power conference programs running smoothly on the road and at home.
Schultheis joined Duke in 2024 after building a strong reputation for operational excellence at the Group of Five and FCS levels. As Duke’s Director of Football Operations under head coach Manny Diaz, he oversaw the day-to-day logistics of one of the ACC’s rising programs. His responsibilities included managing team travel for conference road trips and postseason play, coordinating equipment and meal needs, and ensuring compliance and player support ran without a hitch. Schultheis played a key behind-the-scenes role in helping the Blue Devils navigate a demanding ACC schedule and bowl preparations during his tenure in Durham.
Prior to Duke, Schultheis spent more than three years (2020–2024) as Director of Football Operations at San José State University. Hired in December 2020, he collaborated closely with the Spartans’ football staff on all daily program operations. At SJSU he helped orchestrate travel, logistics, and operational support for Mountain West Conference competition, building continuity after his FCS success. His work at San José State further honed the travel-and-logistics expertise that made him a natural fit for the Rams’ NFL staff.
Schultheis’ career-long focus on operations began right after his 2013 graduation from Ohio University, where he earned a B.S. in Sports Administration. Early stops included a recruiting and operations assistant role at Akron (spring 2014) and a three-year stint (2014–16) as Director of Football Operations and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator at Robert Morris. At RMU he directly coordinated team travel, road-game logistics, meals, housing, and budgets while traveling with the team to every away contest.
He later served as operations manager for USA Football’s national team (2017–18) before becoming Director of Football Operations at Samford, where his duties explicitly included managing all aspects of team travel, rooming lists, and meals alongside budget and compliance oversight. That foundation in hands-on travel and logistics made Schultheis a trusted figure across multiple programs.
Now, after helping stabilize and elevate operations at both San José State and Duke, Schultheis heads to SoFi Stadium. In his new role with the Rams he will apply that same meticulous approach to NFL travel, logistics, and team support on a national stage. FootballScoop passes along our congratulations to Tanner on the well-deserved opportunity and wishes him success in Los Angeles.
