New Falcons HC Kevin Stefanski Sets Tone on Day 1: “Choose Your Identity or Someone Else Will Choose It for You” (Atlanta Falcons)

In his first official team meeting as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Kevin Stefanski wasted no time laying out his vision for 2026 and beyond.

The former Cleveland Browns coach, now leading the Dirty Birds, addressed the full roster Wednesday as the club kicked off its 10-week offseason program. The message was clear, direct, and unmistakably Stefanski: process over flash, identity over noise, and team above all else.

In a clip shared by the Falcons’ official X account, Stefanski stood in front of his players and delivered a focused, no-frills speech that touched on everything from daily standards to long-term championship aspirations.

“So this offseason program, it’s a ten-week program starting from today to June 18th,” Stefanski began. “We get to start early. We get to work… we get to work early.”

He outlined the structure — Phase 1, veteran minicamp, nine OTAs, mandatory minicamp — but quickly pivoted to what actually matters in this room right now.

“What we’re doing right here in this room… that’s what we’re doing this week as we get started,” he said. “What we will do in this offseason program is we will establish a clear identity for our football team. For our offense… for our defense… for our special teams."

Stefanski emphasized that while "schemes are fun, the foundation must come first.

"The focus of what we do will be on fundamentals and techniques,” he stressed. “Scheme is fun. X’s and O’s are fun. I got ya! But we’ll focus on fundamentals and techniques because they carry you through at the end of the day.”

The new head coach laid out simple, non-negotiable standards for the organization:

  • Do what you’re supposed to do, when you’re supposed to do it, every time.
  • Be on time — whether it’s the weight room, meeting rooms, or anywhere else.
  • Treat each other with respect.
  • Protect the team.

He told the players they’re under one roof for a reason — to become a true team.

“Some of that will happen naturally… being under one roof, you got a chance to become a team,” Stefanski said. “And you guys are here and I appreciate that."

Then came the line that the Falcons themselves highlighted in their post:

"There is a great quote — won’t be the last time you’ll hear me say this — choose your identity or someone else will choose it for you. We’re choosing our identity around here. We are not letting anybody else choose it for us.”

Stefanski reminded the room they’re blessed to play “the greatest team game there is” and that individual success only matters if it serves the collective.“

Everything that we do here at the Atlanta Falcons… everything we do will put the team first,” he said. “In every single thing that we do, that’s your identity. That’s who we choose to be as a football team.”

He closed by urging the players to stay locked in on the daily process instead of daydreaming about the end result.

“It’s so easy to talk about the end result. I can put a picture up here of the Lombardi. I can do it. That **** is easy,” Stefanski said. “The hard part is what you’re getting ready to do today… being here today, what you’re going to do in the weight room today, how you’re gonna push each other today. Your expectations of what today — that leads to that special thing.”

He finished strong: “We’re going to focus on what’s in front of us today and building a great foundation for 2026. All right — let’s break it up.”

Stefanski inherits a talented roster in Atlanta and will now begin the work of installing his culture from the ground up. Day 1 is officially in the books — and the standard has been set.
