Another former Michigan staffer has become the center of an ongoing criminal investigation.
This morning, word began to circulate that Atlanta Falcons assistant offensive line coach LaTroy Lewis was the subject of sexual assault allegations stemming from his time on staff in Ann Arbor.
The Falcons released the customary statement sharing they were aware of the allegations and were gathering information.
Then, hours later, the Falcons followed that up with an announcement that they have dismissed Lewis from his role which was preceded by confirmation from multiple outlets that the Ann Arbor PD had launched an investigation.
The decision by the Falcons came following an online investigation by Justin Spiro shared disturbing, vulgar messages that allegedly came from both Lewis, as well as former Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore as well as allegations of both sexual assault and physical assault.
Michigan assistant vice president for public affairs and internal communications released the following statement on the matter.
"These allegations are deeply concerning. As we have noted, the University launched an investigation into the circumstances and conduct leading to Sherrone Moore's firing, as well a a broader culture review of the Athletic Department. We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the law firm conducting the investigation at umconcerns@jenner.com. The work is ongoing, and we will be able to share more when it is completed."
Back on February 10th, the Falcons announced the hire of Lewis, who had spent the 2025 season coaching the defensive line at Toledo following three season on staff at Michigan. Lewis had joined the Wolverines program as a graduate assistant in 2022 under Jim Harbaugh, and was retained under Moore.
The allegations he faces stem from his time on staff with the Wolverines in 2024.
Moore, embroiled in a well-documented legal battle of his own following his dismissal as the head coach of the Wolverines a few months back, is also listed in Spiro's investigation where he is accused of refusing to report allegations brought to him of the assault that took place.
Spiro's investigation includes police reports of incidents, photos of the alleged abuse, as well as screen shots of conversations with both Moore and Lewis.
Lewis initially followed Jason Candle to UConn as part of the defensive staff back in mid-January, but made the move to the NFL just a few weeks later with the Falcons.
A former standout defensive lineman at Tennessee from 2013-16, Lewis played two seasons in the NFL with the Raiders, Texans and Titans before beginning his coaching career.
