JaMarcus Shephard had his defensive coordinator in place at Oregon State before Charles Huff and Memphis come in and swiped Lance Guidry away to lead the Tigers defense.
Back to the drawing board in an effort to complete his staff, Shephard has found his new defensive coordinator, according to a report this morning.
The Athletic shares that Mike MacIntyre is set to become the Beavers new defensive coordinator.
MacIntyre brings a wealth of defensive play caller experience to Corvallis. He has held defensive coordinator roles at UT Martin (FCS), Temple and Duke before landing his first head coaching opportunity at San Jose State in 2010.
His work with the Spartans was nothing short of impressive. He went 1-12 in his debut season, then improved to 5-7 in year two, and made a huge jump to 10-2 in 2012 and immediately became one of the most attractive head coaching candidates that off season.
He took the head coaching job at Colorado, where he got to work on a very similar rebuild. He went 4-8, then 2-10 and 4-9 in his first three seasons in Boulder, but made a jump to 10-4 in his fourth season with a loss in the Alamo Bowl to end the year.
That success with the Buffs ultimately was not sustained though, as MacIntyre won just five games in 2017 and then, after starting the 2018 season 5-0, Colorado stumbled big time down the stretch losing six games in a row to end the year, ultimately ending his tenure in Boulder.
He would spent the 2019 season at Ole Miss back in the defensive coordinator seat working for Matt Luke, and after Luke and the Rebels parted ways MacIntyre landed as the defensive coordinator at Memphis for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
MacIntyre got another shot at being an FBS head coach prior to the 2022 season when FIU tabbed him as their new head coach, but the Panthers ultimately decided to hit the reset button after three-straight 4-8 campaigns.
With stops at San Jose State, Colorado and FIU, MacIntyre carries a 58-89 record as a head coach with two postseason appearances and two seasons ranked among the top 25 programs in college football at the year's end.
After parting ways with FIU, MacIntyre spent this past season in an off-field role as a defensive analyst for Mississippi State.
At Oregon State, he joins brings valuable experience to work with former Alabama receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard, who was tabbed to take over the Beavers program in late November for Trent Bray. The opportunity in Corvallis marks Shephard's first head coaching opportunity.
