As a player, Corico Wright was a part of the foundation of Clemson football's modern success.
In his first stint as a staffer, Wright helped his alma mater march into the College Football Playoff against Nick Saban's Alabama.
He played and coached in eight postseason games during that time.
Now?
Well, now, Wright is poised to come home.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Wright, widely viewed as one of the coaching profession's rising stars with his work at Furman and most recently, Delaware, in addition to some NFL experience with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, is returning home to join Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers defensive staff.
Wright, with experience at then-Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse James Madison, had more than 200 career tackles and appeared in more than 50 games during an decorated career that also included Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors, is returning to Clemson to help coach the Tigers' secondary, sources told FootballScoop Sunday evening.
A Milledgeville, Georgia, native, who already served three seasons as a graduate assistant at Clemson in the nascent days of his coaching career, Wright has been a key cog in Ryan Carty's Delaware Blue Hens program that has transitioned from FCS to Football Bowls Subdivision resident.
All Wright has done has been to help mentor several all-conference cornerbacks as well as to help Tyron Herring sign with the Green Bay Packers in 2025.
Not that it's a one-stop track record of success, Wright also produced multiple All-Southern Conference selections in the secondary while coaching under Clay Hendrix at Furman.
Wright twice was selected to participate in the NFL's prestigious Bill Walsh Minority Internship program, first with the Jets in 2014 and then again just a few years ago with the Miami Dolphins.
Swinney has begun a massive revamp of his Clemson Tigers staff on both sides of the ball following a disappointing, 7-6 2025 season that culminated with a double-digit loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl. Gone is former offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, as well as multiple additional staff members.
Chad Morris has returned to coordinate the Clemson offense.
The Tigers had opened the 2025 campaign as preseason, consensus top-five but lost four or more games for a third-straight season after having not lost four games in a season since 2011 until the current streak.
Clemson is scheduled to open its 18th season under Swinney on Sept. 5, 2026, at LSU.
