Michigan Staff Tracker (2025-26)

What started as unsubstantiated rumors around Sherrone Moore and an affair with a coworker quickly turned into an drama-filled arrest and handful of charges for the Michigan head coach, leading to his dismissal - with cause - in early December.

In a fractured search that included names (per sources) like Eli Drinkwitz, Jeff Brohm, Todd Monken, and Jedd Fisch, among others, Warde Manuel decided to go with a veteran coach in Utah's Kyle Whittingham with no midwest ties but also zero concerns when it came to both his integrity and ability to build a physical, winning environment with the players as the drivers of the culture. 

Whittingham had stepped down at Utah a few weeks ago, paving the way for defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley to shed his head-coach-in-waiting title to take over the Utes, and at his introductory press conference, Whit shared that he believes he still has plenty left in the tank coaching-wise and that Michigan is one of the few jobs in the country he would have considered.

He also noted at his presser that he expects to keep 2 or 3 Michigan assistants, while bringing in 7 or 8 coaches from the outside. Almost immediately, reports began to circulate on his preferred offensive and defensive coordinator hires.
