Forget a made-for-tv, one-show special.
This Lane Kiffin-Ole-Miss-Pete-Golding-LSU thing? Yeah. That's going to have to be a whole freaking docuseries.
The latest? Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Austin Thomas, who just parted ways with LSU as that program's general manager upon Kiffin's arrival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has emerged as a top target in Golding's quest to fill the Ole Miss general manager position.
"I believe that it is [likely to happen] at this rate," an SEC source told FootballScoop Monday.
FootballScoop has learned the deal is, indeed, being finalized right now and Thomas is returning to 'The Grove.' He's expected to have the title of Ole Miss Football General Manager and President of Football Operations.
Yes, Kiffin and Thomas worked together multiple times before -- dating all the way back to 2009 at the University of Tennessee in Kiffin's cameo season as Volunteers head coach.
Thomas then followed Kiffin to USC before he branched off into a number of roles that included becoming at the time college football's first-ever general manager, almost a decade ago, as well as multiple stints at LSU, then time at Texas A&M under Jimbo Fisher and Baylor with Dave Aranda.
Thomas had returned to Ole Miss during Kiffin's tenure in Oxford, Mississippi, before he departed roughly a year ago for a return to LSU and the opportunity to work with his longtime mentor, Scott Woodward -- the fired former LSU athletics director.
Golding has been busy both preparing the Ole Miss Rebels for their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance; the No. 6-seeded Rebels host No. 11 seed Tulane, still coached by Jon Sumrall, who also has been hastily but methodically assembling his inaugural Florida Gators staff.
Sources said the two sides were trying to finalize the deal and hoped to reach a conclusion in the very near future; one source told FootballScoop, "I think this could be done today."
