Sources: Charles Huff making 2 more key additions to Memphis staff (Featured)

After turning around Marshall and following suit at Southern Miss in just one year, Charles Huff now is in the American Conference seeking to lead the Memphis Tigers to a first league championships this decade.

Huff, set to be formally introduced Wednesday, is moving swiftly to assemble his initial Tigers coaching staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Huff is bringing with him Ben Ashford, his strength and conditioning coach from both Marshall and Southern Miss, as well as defensive line coach Eric Mathies.

Huff arrives in Memphis after winning 17 combined games the previous two seasons at two different Sun Belt Conference rivals, first guiding Marshall to the league crown in 2024 and lifting Southern Miss from a 10-loss season to seven wins and bowl berth this year.

He replaces the departed Ryan Silverfield, who stepped into the challenge of rebuilding Arkansas after the Razorbacks fired Sam Pittman in late September and then conducted a meandering search that concluded with Silverfield.

A former NFL assistant and Georgia high school coach, Silverfield posted a 50-25 ledger atop the Memphis program -- and won 29 games the past three seasons. His team had notable wins in recent years against Iowa State, Florida State and Arkansas, as well as Tulane.
