The 2024 season marked the debut of Bill O'Brien as Boston College's new leader, and while there were certainly flashes of promise during that 7-6 campaign that ended with a trip to the Pinstripe Bowl against Nebraska, the 2025 season has not followed suit.
Boston College is currently sitting at the bottom of the ACC standings at 0-5 in league play, and just 1-8 overall with that lone win coming against an FCS program in Fordham, where they handled the Rams 66-10.
While a few of those games could have gone either way - they dropped an overtime game at Michigan State and endured a four-point loss to Cal at home - the Eagles have also had the score run up on them in losses to Pitt (48-7), Clemson (41-10), and even UConn (38-23).
On a bit of a better note, the Eagles were able to play a top-10 Notre Dame squad tight last week, losing by just 15, but the frustration is clearly growing for fans of the Chestnut Hill program.
Today, at his media availability, O'Brien let his emotions get the better of him and lashed out at a reporter who Bill felt has had a negative tone to his questions over the last several weeks.
...that is, when the guy has bothered to show up, according to O'Brien.
When asked if he had a message for the fans, O'Brien interrupted the question with his thoughts.
"I'm really glad. I'm glad you're down. I'n not down. Nobody is down. We are fighting. We are competing."
"You know, it's the second year of this program Mike. You always come in here with these down questions. You show up like once a month or something like that, and you come in here with these down questions."
"I'm not down. I don't know what year you graduated from BC, but this is a program that we are building. Nobody here is down. We are positive, we are going to show up and play our asses off against SMU."
"You can go out there, in your dark clouded world, or whatever it is, and do what you want to do, but we're not down. The sun is up and we are fighting. That's my message to the fans," a fired up Bill said before directing his attention to another reporter.
