Oregon State moving on from head coach Trent Bray (Oregon State)

After a loss to Wake Forest over the weekend dropped them to 0-7 on the season, Oregon State has decided to part ways with head coach Trent Bray, per multiple reports.

At the podium after the game, Bray faced a tough line of questioning that included if he felt the team had quit on him and the staff, how the program can climb out of their situation, the current state of the program, what is left to play for at this point in the season.

Bray voiced his frustration and disappointment alongside the fan base's, before answering a question about his job security being up in the air right now.

"I really don’t think about that. Those are out of my control, decisions that people make. I’m just going to show up until they tell me I can’t."

He also noted how the start to the season has presented a tough mental path for players and staff to regroup from.

"I think to start the season the way we did, to lose, it can wear on you mentally. Just the last two weeks, you bury yourself early. All that self doubt starts creeping back in your head. At the beginning of the game, to start the game, they are fired up and ready to go. Bad things happen, and it’s natural to let those things creep in your head. That’s what you’ve got to fight against."

Bray was two years into a five-year deal deal and is expected to be owed just over $4 million.

A week ago today, Bray announced a coordinator change, parting ways with special teams coordinator Jamie Christian.

An alumnus, Bray was elevated from defensive coordinator to head coach following Jonathan Smith's departure for Michigan State.

A former Beaver standout linebacker who racked up back-to-back seasons of 100+ tackles, he played a season overseas before starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Arizona State.

He landed a job in major college football in 2010 with the Sun Devils as their linebackers coach, spent a few seasons back in Corvallis as a graduate assistant working with linebackers before following Mike Riley to Nebraska as linebackers coach in 2015.

Bray has been back at Oregon State since 2018, starting as linebackers coach for a few seasons before being elevated to defensive coordinator in 2022.

He went 5-7 in his debut season as head coach before dropping seven straight to open 2025 including losses to Cal, Fresno State, Texas Tech, Oregon, Houston, and App State before their loss to Wake Forest this past weekend.
