A pirate ship. A turkey leg the size of a Flintstone's Brontosaurus rib. A massive football stadium.
All are central to the latest FootballScoop College Football Rewind, with this week's edition diving deep into the sport's incredible Week 7 action.
Those aforementioned items were backdrop to the annual 'Red River Rivalry,' nee 'Red River Shootout,' between Oklahoma and Texas.
The Longhorns found a turnover-free performance from Arch Manning, a suffocating, opportunistic defense and a dynamic special teams formula to keep alive their season in a 23-6 win against the previously undefeated Sooners, who now face very real questions about their offense and, oh, just have upcoming tilts at South Carolina and home against Ole Miss before a date at Tennessee ... and then an open date before closing at Alabama, home against Missouri and the regular-season finale at home against LSU.
Sooner Magic? Brent Venables is about to need all the pixie dust.
A coach for whom there isn't enough magic dust in the world right now? Penn State's James Franklin. Fans openly chanted for the school to fire Franklin Saturday in the face of yet another come-from-ahead loss, this one to scrappy but vastly undermanned Northwestern.
The Wildcats won 22-21 in Unhappy Valley and in the process sent Penn State to a third-straight loss.
We discuss just how bad things are for Franklin, who's guided the nation's preseason No. 2 team into complete irrelevance for the 2025 season.
Indeed, the epitaph will show that Penn State's season was formally placed into a vegetative state on 10.11.25, and while it has six more Saturdays where the machine will be plugged into the wall, Penn State football this season no longer is breathing on its own.
There's plenty of discussion, and warranted at that, around the officiating in the Georgia-Auburn game, which saw the Bulldogs rally for an 20-10 win but will forever be known as the 'what-if' game in the 'Deep South's Oldest Rivarly.' What if the officials called a touchdown seemingly by the letter of the rule, as in when the tip of the football broke the plane.
