Firing veteran leader Mike Gundy isn't the only in-season coaching casualty at Oklahoma State.
The school has shared today that defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has also been let go, just a week after the Cowboys decided to part ways with Gundy and handed the keys of the program to offensive coordinator Doug Meacham as interim head coach.
The decision to part ways with Grantham comes after a 45-27 loss to Baylor that dropped Oklahoma State to 1-3 on the year.
Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson passed for nearly 400 yards (393 to be exact) and four touchdowns, as the Bears ruined the first game without Mike Gundy on the sidelines in more than two decades. Baylor put up over 600 yards total.
Just a few weeks ago, Tulsa took a two-score lead into halftime into their matchup with the Cowboys, and that lead marked the program's first two-score halftime lead over a Power Four opponent in over two decades. The Golden Hurricane would go on to hold onto that lead for a 19-12 win in what turned out to be the final stray for Gundy.
Grantham, who was in his first season on staff, took over a defense with a lot of work to do. They ranked 126th nationally in scoring and 130th in total defense in 2024.
The Cowboys inked the veteran college defensive coordinator to a three-year deal and Chris Low shares that he is still owed for two years.
He was set to make $1.3 million this year, $1.4 million in 2026 and $1.5 million in 2027.
Grantham was brought to Stillwater to replace Bryan Nardo after two seasons.
After spending time coaching defensive lines at Virginia Tech and Michigan State, where he added the assistant head coach title in 1998, he spent a handful fo seasons in the NFL coaching the defensive lines for the Colts and Texans before landing his first defensive coordinator job with the Cleveland Browns in 2005.
His career calling defenses would take him to the SEC with stops at Georgia, Mississippi State, and Florida, as well as a few seasons at Louisville.
After his stint with the Gators in 2021, he spent a season under Nick Saban as a defensive analyst at Alabama before heading back to the NFL as the Saints defensive line coach for two seasons before taking Mike Gundy's defensive coordinator job with the Cowboys in Stillwater.
Stepping in to call the defense moving forward will be Clint Bowen, the former longtime member of the Kansas staff, who had been on staff in a quality control role.
Bowen played his college football for the Jayhawks and has 14 years of FBS defensive coordinator experience.
He led Kansas to a 1-7 mark as the program's interim head coach following the dismissal of Charlie Weis in back in 2014. His son, Banks, is a freshman quarterback with the program.
