Frank Beamer's vision for an indoor practice facility took a major step forward yesterday when the university Board of Visitors unanimously approved the $21.3 million price tag for the new 120,000 square foot facility.
According to Tonia Moxley, the university has already raised $12.4 million in private money for the project, and the rest will be paid for in temporary financing. The site of the new building will occupy about half of the Hokie's current practice fields near Lane Stadium, and will be much closer to the existing locker rooms than the smaller Rector Field House, which the team utilizes now.
Construction is said to begin this summer, and the new facility is expected to be finished by August 2015. Below is how the facility will look when it's all finished.
