Virginia: The University of Virginia Strength and Conditioning unit is currently accepting applications for a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to begin June 2015. This position will assist in the implementation of strength programs for 23 sports. The position will be assigned to assist with football, as well as Olympic sports. This position will assist with the daily maintenance of the facilities. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and admission to the University of Virginia Graduate Program in Kinesiology. The deadline for fall admission is June 2015. Candidates must have strong organizational and communication skills, and a desire to pursue a career in strength and conditioning. Preferred qualifications include previous strength and conditioning coaching experience, USAW, SCCC and/or CSCS certification, and proficiency in computer applications. Candidates must adhere to all University, ACC, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Compensation includes an annual stipend of $15,000 (Football S&C GA – 12 months). The position will require approximately 25 hours per week. Marshall: Marshall Strength & Conditioning Department is accepting applications for volunteer/s intern to work with the football team during summer 2015. Internship will start May 11th, and end August 6th. The candidate/s will work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting with daily operations, administrative and maintenance duties, and various assignments as directed by the strength staff. This is an unpaid internship, with no compensation or housing provided. Interns will receive experience working for a Division I University and have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities. Intern/s will receive professional work experience and develop skills to become a successful strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate and professional level. Intern/s must be highly motivated, have a strong work ethic, and have an interest in the strength and conditioning field. The Head Strength coach is also a Master Strength and Conditioning Certified Coach through the CSCCa and an approved mentor. After a 640-hour internship is completed at Marshall University the intern/s will be eligible to sit for the SCCC exam at the CSCCa conference the following May. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field; working toward CSCCa or CSCS certification; CPR certification. Southwestern University (D-III - TX): The Southwestern University Sports Performance department is currently accepting applications for fall 2015 volunteer strength & conditioning intern positions. Duties will include assisting with daily operations & facility maintenance, managing various athletic performance data base programs as well as the completion of various educational assignments. Interns will have the opportunity to receive experience working with all aspects of the varsity football in-season training program. Candidates selected will be working in a rapidly expanding NCAA DIII environment with the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities, and receive college credit if applicable. Qualifications: Must be enrolled in an institution of higher education in an exercise related major. Candidates must have a strong desire to become strength and conditioning professionals, must possess an enthusiastic spirit, strong character and demonstrate effective organization and communication skills. Possessing or pursuing the CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certifications preferred. No compensation will be provided. However, the position offers the opportunity of advancement in the field of strength and conditioning as well as the fulfillment of credit hours toward a program degree. Rice: The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Rice University has vacancies for volunteer strength and conditioning interns for Olympic Sports and football. These are unpaid positions. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (Exercise Sciences or related fields). Candidates must also have extensive knowledge and coaching experience with Olympic- style lifting exercises. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include current CSCCa or NSCA Coaching Certifications or the active pursuit of the CSCCa or NSCA Coaching Certifications. Possible starting dates are late May 2015 and August 2015. Volunteer Strength and Conditioning Interns will have the opportunity to complete the CSCCa 640 hour Practicum under an approved CSCCa mentor.
