Yesterday, Mack Breed, the John Jay HS (San Antonio, TX) assistant coach who instructed two of his players to target a referee, turned himself in and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge.
The incident back in September, which included video of the two players blindsiding the referee, made national news and included the two players in question appearing on Good Morning America to try and explain their side of the story.
Here's a look back at the hit that took place.

According to ABC News, Breed (who resigned from his coaching position shortly after the incident) appeared before a judge yesterday and entered a guilty plea. He was actually sentenced to a year in jail and faced a $3,500 fine, but a plea agreement was reached that reduced his sentence to 18 months of probation and 120 hours of community service. Breed was also ordered to pay restitution to Robert Watts, the referee who suffered the attack.
Considering the media attention and play that this situation got on social media, Breed is lucky to be walking away with probation and a fine.
This is a great reminder that if you step out of line on the sidelines, a court can - and will - punish you accordingly.
