The last time that St. Anselm College (D-II - NH) finished the season with a winning record, the nation was still reeling from a Y2K scare.
To be more precise, it's been 14 years since the Hawks posted at least six wins, and Saturday against a 6-3 New Haven (D-II - CT) squad, St. Anselm (5-4 at the time of the meeting) mounted a furious comeback, and had to respond to some major adversity more than once in the game's waning minutes to capture that elusive sixth win.
With 2:11 to play, down four points, the Hawks punch one in from the 12. A few plays after kicking the ball off with the lead, New Haven marches down the field in a few plays to score and retake the lead.
St. Anselm's last possession is where things get really interesting. On the ensuing kickoff, New Haven commits a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, handing the ball to the Hawks offense at the +48 yard line, setting up a very doable Hail Mary for the win.
