Wednesday's signing day press conferences included plenty of excitement, and a heavy dose of "coach speak."
Fresh off their first bowl game since 2002, head coach Curtis Johnson noted how big of a role their 7-6 season played in nearly their entire signing class.
“If we wouldn’t have won those games, 80 percent of this class we wouldn’t have gotten. This list would be totally different. It’s a great thing. Each year, this list is getting better and better and better.” Johnson told WWLTV after the last fax came through.
With a reporter embedded at Tulane for signing day chronicling the staff's every move, coach Johnson provided what may be the best analogy of recruiting I've ever heard.
“I guess it’s like a marriage. I did this – I married the most beautiful woman in the world. But you don’t always marry the most beautiful woman. You don’t marry the richest. You don’t marry the poorest. What you do is you marry the one you’re most comfortable with and you trust."
“I think these kids trust us," he added. "When they did that, when you trust someone and they stay consistent, it’s hard to say no.”
As you prepare your recruiting boards for the 2015 class, keep that in mind. Recruiting is a lot like marriage.
