Michigan State and Ohio State share a mutual hatred of all things Michigan. But the two programs will put their disdain for all things maize and blue aside during their massive game Saturday to honor an important figure in the Michigan family.
Chad Carr, former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr's 5-year-old grandson, was recently placed on hospice care during his prolonged battle with an inoperable brain tumor. The Carr family has used #ChadTough as his rallying cry, and Saturday the Buckeyes and Spartans will carry that cry into battle.
Michigan interim AD Jim Hackett told the Detroit News Ohio State AD Gene Smith and Michigan State AD Mark Hollis came up with the plan on their own.
“He made it clear to me their respect for Lloyd is what radiates in all of this,” Hackett said. “They have great respect for him. I called and told Lloyd, and he was touched all the way around.
“For me that’s what makes college sports so much better. It is wonderful being able to stand for that.”
