Northwestern will install a new video board at Ryan Field

On Monday, Northwestern announced plans to add a much-needed video board to the quaint but antiquated Ryan Field, as well as new LED video boards above both the north and south end zones.

Located in the northeast corner of Ryan Field, the new video board will triple the size of Northwestern's current scoreboard, leaping from 390 to more than 1,100 square feet. Construction will begin following completion of the university's commencement ceremonies and is expected to complete in time for the Aug. 30 opener versus California.

"This is an exciting announcement for members of the Northwestern Football family and another indication of our commitment to providing the best possible gameday experience for fans and guests of Chicago's Big Ten Team," head coach Pat Fitzgerald said in a statement. "Initiatives of this magnitude don't happen without the hard work of many individuals across campus and the support of our terrific fanbase, so I'd like to thank all those who played a role in making these videoboard upgrades a reality. We can't wait for our fans to join us in experiencing an enhanced gameday atmosphere when we take the field against the Golden Bears on Aug. 30."
