Reports: Mark Richt will be the new head coach at Miami (Top)

The U looks like it will have a familiar face as the new face of the program. Mark Richt, who played quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1979-1982, is heading to Coral Gables as the new head coach, according to multiple reports.

We have not confirmed this.

It has been widely reported that Richt was pursued by five other schools after being fired from at Georgia, where he spent 15 seasons and notched 9 wins this season. In the moments that followed the initial report that Richt was taking the job, conflicting reports have emerged.

Then, a little later, Schlabach and Brett McMurphy weighed in again.

At Georgia, Richt led the Bulldogs to a bowl game every season and notched at least eight wins in all but one year.

Richt could have easily decided to spent a year away from football and weight his options at a later date, but the opportunity at his alma mater proved to be too tempting. This is a win-win: Miami gets a proven head coach with plenty of ties in Florida, and Richt gets an opportunity to turn around his alma mater.
