I'll be the first one to admit that I don't follow recruiting like what seems to be the norm nowadays, but when a recruit's journey includes dating advice from the one and only Les Miles, you immediately have my attention.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, that's exactly what happened to five-star defensive end Lorenzo Carter from Norcross HS (GA). Carter had his decision down to Georgia and LSU, with the Tigers leading for most of the way before Georgia took over the top spot just before National Signing Day.
In a Q&A with the AJC, Carter talked about his recruiting process, and how Georgia's hand drawn portraits were the most creative thing he got in the mail (which worked really well for him, but might not have worked for another Georgia recruit), and he also shared some great Les Miles nuggets from the recruiting process.
When asked what his funniest story from the recruiting process was, Carter responded by saying; “Probably Les Miles talking about girls. Girl talk with Les Miles was kind of awkward because you don’t think of him as a ladies man. But he seems like he knows what he’s talking about."
He also noted that one of the pieces of advice that Miles shared with him was to "not be rude when they call late at night." Which is some solid advice, if I do say so myself.
Carter also had a bit of advice for head coaches in the interview. When talking about the schools that he was most disappointed in at the end of the recruiting process, he noted the schools on his list and added that he was never able to build a solid relationship with the program's head coaches, which ultimately led to him looking elsewhere.
This is a very good Q&A from a top recruit's perspective. Take a look at the full piece, including more Les Miles nuggets, here.
