Following a 3-9 debut season, an 8-5 rebound campaign and St. Petersburg Bowl victory proved enough for N.C. State to sign head coach Dave Doeren to a two-year contract extension, which was announced Friday.
The new agreement keeps Doeren under contract through 2019 and bumps his annual pay from $1.8 million to $2.2 million.
“When we hired Coach Doeren we realized he had the vision and commitment to elevate our program,” said N.C. State athletics director Debbie Yow in a statement. “He is an outstanding leader, is committed to building a championship-level program the right way, and positively impacts the lives of our student-athletes. We look forward with anticipation to what he and his staff will do over the next several years.”
N.C. State notes that the Wolfpack won four of five games down the stretch (though two of those wins came against Syracuse and Wake Forest, a combined 6-18 in 2014) and its five-win improvement was the second-largest among Power Five programs.
Based on 2014 salaries, Doeren's new salary figure bumps him around a dozen spots nationally, equal to Cincinnati's Tommy Tuberville and Utah's Kyle Whittingham.
