Chris Ash to be Rutgers next head coach (Featured)

Sources tell FootballScoop, and multiple outlets are reporting, that Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash is working towards completing a deal to become Rutgers new head coach. Sports Illustrated first reported the news.

Ash, who has been a candidate for multiple other head coaching positions over the past year, has served as the co-defensive coordinator for Urban Meyer's staff the past two seasons. Ash was Bret Bielema's defensive coordinator at Arkansas for one season and was with Bielema at Wisconsin coaching defensive backs and as defensive coordinator for three seasons prior to that.

Ohio State's defensive ranks this season:

  • Scoring defense: 2nd
  • Touchdowns allowed: 4th
  • Total defense: 10th
  • Yards per play allowed: 4th
  • Yards per carry allowed: 12th
  • Pass efficiency defense: 7th
  • Yards per attempt allowed: 9th
  • Opponent completion percentage: 7th
  • First downs allowed: 9th
  • Opponent plays of 10+ yards: 8th
