The Auburn coaching staff orchestrated one of the greatest single-season turnarounds in college football last fall, and now the school plans to reward them for it.
Though the new contracts are not yet finalized, the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser revealed new salary figures for Gus Malzahn's staff on Saturday. The paper reports that Auburn assistant salary pool will grow from $3.495 million to $4.32 million in 2014; jumping the Tigers from fifth to third nationally.
Even in spite of the increase, however, Auburn still remains third in the SEC West, trailing national leaders LSU ($4.65 million) and Alabama ($4.46 million). It's a tough world out there.
Here's how the raises will unfold:
Johnson remains the highest-paid assistant on the staff, but Lashlee is the biggest gainer. The Advertiser notes that Lashlee's salary skyrockets from 40th (in the SEC) to 21st (in all of college football) by 2013 figures.
Head coach Gus Malzahn agreed to a six-year, $$26.85 million contract in December. He will earn $3.85 million in 2014.
