With the season either here or just around the corner for most high schools across the country, kids, their parents, and their coaches will be putting together highlight films every week to send off to college coaches.
However, if a highlight tape is what you're making, keep Will Muschamp off the recipient list.
Muschamp said when he took over at South Carolina, he felt like they needed additional help in the area of recruiting and evaluation to compete for the SEC consistently, so, as so many top programs have been doing the past several years, they realized a need to beef up that area with qualified staff.
"As coaches, you spend so much time coaching, you're on the road recruiting, I'm not able to make a cut-up. So we had to hire a lot of workpower in those offices to be able to create those edits."
Then Muschamp shared a term to describe the type of tapes that he prefers over the traditional highlight tapes.
"Create what I call 'Point of Attack' tapes. Not all good things. Not a highlight tape. This is a point of attack tape. At the point of attack, what is the player doing? Is he making a positive contribution or a negative contribution to his team?"
"We really had to build that department. It was not something that we necessarily had."
Muschamp goes on to share how social media and nutrition have been other integral areas that they've also taken a major step forward in as far as staffing goes, and how athletic director Ray Tanner has been instrumental in all of that.
